I will no longer order from Stellar. The reeds I recieved were fine, but this past time something went wrong with the order. I have tried multiple times to contact them over the past week, but no one has ever called me back. It has been incredibly frustrating.
I’ve used Stellar Oboe reeds for about a year (starting with the student models and now use the pro versions) and highly recommend them. The majority have been fantastic. I receive them every month and look forward to every new box. On occasion, I’ve receive one I didn’t like, and they’ve replaced it quickly. If you are looking for consistency and high quality, this is the place.
I love Amy’s reeds!! As with all good reeds, you have to break them in and adjust them as needed (clip the tip, thin the tip, scrape out of the heart, etc). Perfect reeds are EXTREMELY hard to come by. Every piece of cane is different. If you want a completely finished reed, you have to order the professional, but you will still have to break them in. She makes them to order. Tell her in the comment space she has for ordering reeds how you like it…easy, somewhat resistant, etc. She’s awesome!!! Her reeds have lots of guts, with control and a dark sound. I will always support Stellar Oboe Products because of the quality of her work
i just ordered 3 reeds a week ago and i paid 16 dollars extra for overnight shipping because i was in need of reeds. I still haven’t received them and i will never do business with them again.
I tried everyone and these reeds are the only consistent ones I’ve been able to find. The student reeds are great for my kids (pitch and sound!). I play on the pro reeds with the chudnow corkless staple. They are awesome. They ship me reeds automatically every month so I don’t have to order. I’ve had a couple crack but they always replaced them for free. Try them out!
I ordered a sample of 6 Stellar reeds for my students to try, but was very disappointed. I asked them to send me a variety of strengths, but all of the reeds were unfinished. They were too long, too thick, and extremely flat. There was still bark on the heart! Overall, a huge disappointment.
I like the system here, as when you order online, there is a place for you to describe your level of ability, your instrument, and your tastes in reeds and tone color. I ordered two reeds on my first order and got two of differing resistances. Both were pretty good reeds with stable pitch and tone throughout the range. I did have some difficulty playing very high notes (above F#3), however. Worth a shot and with a little adjusting of your own, these could be stellar as their name implies.
cokomo January 31, 2012: Lyn Davies I don’t know if the reed stock is different or what, but I have just purchased three reeds from Rush’s and the next day two of them were cracked.
geekygeek January 28, 2012: Jones Double Reed Products Good for beginners, and the medium soft is quite easily to blow on. Pretty durable and consistent. They’re good beginner reeds but the sound quality isn’t so fantastic. I use just a regular knife (even though you should buy a...
Anonymous January 14, 2012: SUGGESTION BOX Thank you so much for this site. I have a limited # of manufacturers where I lived, and they all sound bad( Jones, Emerald, Richards). Anyway, you could improve the collected ratings page by sepeating them by area(USA, Asia, Australia, Canada,...
Anonymous January 14, 2012: The Reedmaker For me, these reeds are the best. I ordered three reeds from him and two of them were too hard, so I sent them back, and he scraped more and threw another one in! Every one of them were the best sounding reeds I have played so far, not that I have...

Klezmer January 4, 2012: Reed Expression Normall have made my own for years, but do not have the time. I purchased 5 medium-soft German scrape reeds. I just adjusted them to my own chops and all five play very well. They respond easy and have very good intonation. I am trying a couple EH...

Reliable and quick if when I needed them. She took back any bad reeds. They all needed a fair amount of adjustment though.

Best reeds I’ve ever played.
also do not stay stable after the first few playing sessions
I bought two professional oboe reeds with Sierra Brass Staple.
It was “guaranteed” and was supposed to have great dynamic range, tuned, etc.
However, one of the reeds was very sloppily tied, and both were in need of adjustment.

I have tried many different kinds of reeds and found these to be the most consistent. I have finally found the company for me

Bragged to me once about how many reeds she can make in an hour. It shows.
